Annual Report of the Comptroller of the Currency
The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) has reported annually to Congress on the status of the national banks chartered, regulated, and supervised since 1863. Depending on the year in question, the Annual Report may be comprised of multiple volumes or include supplements.
Annual Report of the Secretary of the Treasury on the State of the Finances
The Secretary of the Treasury has reported annually to Congress on the status of the nation’s financial health since 1789. These Annual Reports also contain many of the departmental reports, including the Bureau of the Mint, Bureau of Engraving and Printing and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. Depending on the year in question, the Annual Report may be comprised of multiple volumes or include statistical appendices.

Rhodes’ Journal of
Banking was another trade publication for the banking industry in the United
States. It was published from 1874 until it merged with The Bankers’
Magazine in July 1895.

The monthly Federal
Reserve Bulletin was introduced in May 1915 to provide a record of the activities
of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. The Bulletin
includes articles on banking supervision and regulation, as well as reports on
the condition of the United States banking industry. In 2006, the
publication of paper issues was discontinued and replaced with an annual
compilation available online. Between 2004 and 2008, the financial and
business statistics section of the Bulletin was published as the Statistical
Supplement to the Federal Reserve Bulletin.
The Merchants’ Magazine and Commercial Review
The
Merchants’ Magazine and Commercial Review was a general commerce publication
that included regular features on currency and the banking industry in the
United States. The Merchants’ Magazine
and Commercial Review was published from 1839 to 1871 under the following

The Rand-McNally Bankers’ Directory
The Rand-McNally Bankers' Directory contains information on banks in the towns and counties of the United States at the time of publication. The names of bank directors and officers are included, as well as a list of then current banking laws.
